Leadership

Robin Johnson Cash, Ph.D. | STEM Business Leader, Professor

“Great women are not considered so because of personal achievements but for the effect, their efforts have had on the lives of countless others.” – Peggy Anderson, Author

As a great woman, Dr. Robin Johnson Cash’s important endeavors and unwavering commitment to wide-ranging excellence have certainly impacted the lives of countless individuals.

She not only navigates her own multifaceted, successful business journey at Ford Motor Co., she also is dedicated as an adjunct professor to opening doors of opportunity and high-performance for next-generation change agents—keenly in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

The destination of greatness is not entitled; it is instilled. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to hard-working, value-oriented parents who fostered an environment conducive to learning and leadership, Robin thrived during her childhood. As such, with guidance and inspiration from her parents and teachers, while attending Detroit public schools, she distinguished herself by excelling in Math and Science and graduating in the top 5% of her class.

She furthered her lifelong passion for education by earning a Bachelor, Masters and Ph.D. of Science in Mechanical Engineering. She is also a six-sigma Blackbelt, Certified MBTI® Facilitator, and Certified Diversity Trainer.

For the past 28 years, her performance has been recognized with the INUKSUK Award, Global Diversity, and Inclusion Recognition Award, and Global Coolant Implementation Award at Ford. She is credited with the principal contributions to three U.S. patents for Ford as well.

Robin is committed undoubtedly to inspiring, transformative excellence in the next generation. She teaches as scheduled, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Intro to Engineering as an adjunct professor at Tuskegee University (since 1995), Lawrence Technological University (since 1996) and Eastern Michigan University (since 2012) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide (since 2016). She was also the first African-American to earn a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Michigan Technological University.

When Robin is not reaching new heights in her management or teaching career, she is also dedicated to community service either as a volunteer or with financial support. Robin fervently promotes education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in public speaking engagements at corporations, colleges, and universities.

After witnessing a lack of minority students pursuing STEM majors in college for decades and the enormous deficiency of students graduating and filling the critical job pipeline nationwide, Robin is working to change this, with the realization that myriad future careers will employ STEM skills. Her mission is to close gaps and open doors to more STEM majors and increased STEM-career readiness.

If your corporation wants STEM employees in the future or your university wants new students with STEM majors now, Robin’s message will be the spark of inspiration these students need to target a future in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.
